Counselling and Psychosocial Services

Jacques has a passion for the facilitation of change and growth with individuals, groups and families. His interventions are rooted in the Person-Centred, Strengths and Human Potential approaches. The Person-Centred Approach unconditionally believes in every person, group or familys gift and ability to actualise, maintain and enhance the self. The wholeness of the person is approached through a counselling process that facilitates change and growth according to the individuals personal strength and potential.

Jacques’ practice philosophy could be summarised in the words of Carl Rogers (1980: xvii): I am no longer talking simply about psychotherapy, but about a point of view, a philosophy, an approach to life, a way of being, which fits any situation in which growth – of a person, a group, or a community – is part of the goal.

Counselling and psychosocial approaches can help a person to gain new understanding about his or her needs and to discover innovative ways of solving difficulties according to the person’s self-determination. It assists in developing new skills and to change unwanted behaviour patterns. It contributes to an improved ability to manage difficult situations, can increase appreciation for self and others by utilising existing resources and strengths for further personal development.
